How a Dream Helped Me Smash My Push-Up Record

Last night, I had a weird experience. I saw myself in a dream from a third-person point of view. I was doing push-ups.

So I'm looking at myself out of body, as a different person, doing full-range push-ups. I don't remember the final count—because it's hard to remember accurately the details of dreams after a while—but it was upward of 30 push-ups. I just kept going with the push-ups, and my biceps were pumped. I could see the veins in the biceps, and I felt energized watching myself push through the exercise.

That's all about the dream.

Now, let me give you a rundown of the events before the dream, to understand what may have caused it.

Yesterday while exercising, it occurred to me that maybe instead of doing half push-ups, which is what I usually do, I should try doing full push-ups and see how many I can do.

I tried it, and I was only able to do 12 full push-ups, then I stopped.

I think that’s why the dream happened.

The dream felt so real that after waking up this morning I looked at my biceps. For a moment, I didn’t realize it was a dream. It was as if I had really been doing those 40+ push-ups yesterday. I expected to see my biceps as big as they were in the dream, and when I looked at them, that’s when I realized it was just a dream!

The whole day today, I have felt so energized. In the evening, I started exercising, and I did push-ups the same way I saw myself doing them in the dream.

Normally, when I exercise, I tend to do half push-ups and do them quickly to hit 30-40 push-ups in a row. This method helps, but it’s not the same as doing full push-ups, which are harder and limit how many you can do.

In the dream, however, I was doing full push-ups. So I decided to do full push-ups like in the dream. And you won't believe it, but I did 30 push-ups in a row, full push-ups, bringing my chest all the way to the ground and then all the way back up.

That’s a jump of 18 in a single day! From 12 yesterday to 30 full-range push-ups today. As I said, I can do 40 half push-ups easily, but we’re talking 30 full push-ups in one day’s training. How did that happen?

You can take away what you will from this description of the “weird experience” of mine, but I think I know why I was able to do 30 full-range push-ups today.

The dream certainly had something to do with it. But in addition to the dream, if you want to know what I think happened, I recommend reading this post I wrote about sleep a few days ago. Upon reading it, if you connect the dots, it will blow your mind and may change your life.
