I am beginning to think that AI becoming conscious is not going to surprise humanity. Because it is happening gradually, rather than coming as a shock
What AI is capable of today is mind-blowing. But I see very few minds being blown. People are constantly being primed for the next stage of progress
So, when AI finally becomes conscious, most people will probably go meh. They would have been so primed for it that it would simply feel like the next inevitable stage of progress
